International

Well well… international orientation is over. So far so good, I would say. It’s a little challenging making friends when you switch groupings so fast here and there, but I managed to talk to a few people. Today was rather hilarious because we had this lesson on American culture and the lecturer was telling us how a student actually looked up and shrugged when an American student asked him ‘What’s up?’. She was also explaining to us how Americans usually just reply with a short ‘no’ and not elaborate why.

Oh and I had lunch with an American guy from Washington DC with his parents as well as a few China girls. The American guy’s parents asked me about durians and said that they’re really smelly. To which I told them a friend of mine loved it so much that she ate 3 whole durians in one sitting and got diarrhea the next day (you know who you are!). They looked quite disgusted and I was like, oops. Haha. They were also really surprised that I could speak English well (in fact, they said my english was ‘perfect’).

Haha and it was so much fun babbling with Cheryl Lee about nonsensical stuff over Viber. Must do it more often!

I’m really looking forward to the start of classes. So far I registered for

1) The Emergence of Modern Europe (Cold War!)

2) Climate Change (as part of the science requirement)

3) Hip Hop Music and Culture (as part of my diversity requirement)

4) Math

Looks like fun, eh?

Move in day is tmr! Going to see what dorm life will be like *crosses fingers*. It’s really gonna be a big change because I’ve never lived like that before. I’ve had my own room for as long as I can remember. Ah well, must experience dorm living yah!

Something, something about this place…
