My Culinary Adventure Part 1
So begins my attempt at being domesticated.
Day 1 - Brownies
Date: 14 Feb 2011, around 2000 hrs
Source: Ready For Dessert by David Lebovitz
Experiment: Robert’s Absolute Best Brownies
Recipe:
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
8 ounces bittersweet chocolate
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1/4 cup all purpose flour
I’m so bored from staying at home and wasting time that I realised that I needed to learn how to cook before heading off to the US of A. However, it’s actually chinese main courses that I need to learn…
However, to get my interest in cooking started, I decided to bake! And since I love chocolate, I chose to make brownies!
So after making a gigantic mess in the kitchen, the end results is…..

This! Or, under different lighting…

This!
Looks quite edible right? However, after attempting to cut and scoop remove the brownies from the pan,
I ended up with..

This :(
Look closely and it’s

this…
It doesn’t taste as bad as it looks though. A little too sweet though. I was the only one in my family who actually ate it. And yes I finished it in 5 days. Woo.
Anyway, Day 1 didn’t go that well but Day 2 is much better!
Day 2 - Chinese meal
Date: 22 Feb 2011, 1645 hrs
Source: Josephine

Recipe: totally forgot.
I just cooked a whole meal today! Woooo *clap clap*
Ok so the dishes were…
1) Beef slices with sauce
2) Sambal fish
3) Stir fried broccoli with capsicum
+
leftovers from yesterday which I didn’t cook (in case you’re wondering why there’s so little food)
Anyway so I underwent OJT (on the job training) today with Chef Josephine and I learnt that
1) My sense of taste is way off
2) Never throw beef into oil
3) Corn flour = corn starch
I started with the fish…

frying in the pan… sizzle sizzle.. kinda looks like a giant pair of lips huh

And it’s done! The fish was really easy. Just slide it into the pan and flip it after awhile.
Next is the beef!

Marinated…

In the pan…

And here it is! (before draining the oil)
Broccoli’s boring so I’m not going to elaborate on it (also cuz I had to fry it really quickly and had no time to take pictures and prevent any oil from spilling onto jan’s precious camera)
So after making the sauce and chopping up the beef….

Ta-dah!
And up close..

So ends Part 1. Watch out for Part 2!
